For me, there needs to be a spot for Leia sparring with Tarkin right through the destruction of Alderaan and "I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened."

With what came later on in his career, it's easy to forget sometimes that George Lucas, as a director, was quite capable of setting up some wonderful shots.
ReplyDeleteFor example, the early shot in this movie of Leia feeding the data disk into R2, shot down a corridor of sorts amongst a ton of heavy machinery. Nicely framed, very science fictiony. The distant, alluring, mysterious female. A quick look at the camera, then she covers her head. Who is she? What is she doing?
If it had been in one of the prequels, it probably just would have been Carrie Fisher in front of a blue screen, later to be filled by a bunch of CGI droids and belching lizards. True story.
